Community Updates

Community Updates are sent to Galena families every Wednesday evening via email. These weekly messages include important news, upcoming events, and key updates to help families stay informed and connected with our school community.

Galena Community Update May 6, 2026

Mr. Salter – Principal

  • Good luck to all of our teams competing in the Regional tournaments!
  • Thank you to the Galena 5 Star PTO for recognizing our teachers this week for Teacher Appreciation.  The whole week has been filled with new and exciting events and treats for our teachers.  We really appreciate it.
  • As we continue to improve our school security during academic hours, we’ve added two new door sensors to the front of the school which sound an alarm when the doors are opened.  We are addressing an issue of students are opening, or propping the doors open, for friends who are late.

Mrs. Nelson – Assistant Principal

  • There will be a change to counseling caseloads for the 26-27 school year. Starting in the 26-27 school year, counselors will start with a grade level and roll up with that class through graduation. Starting in 26-27 the caseloads will be as follows:

Class of 2027 – Genell Burroughs

Class of 2028 – Peyton Taylor

Class of 2029 – Robyn Brown

Class of 2030 – Clara Mitchell

Mrs. Courneya – Assistant Principal

  • Our Special Education Department has launched a fundraiser to help purchase much needed instructional supplies. I wanted to share this opportunity in the hope that you might be willing to help by donating or sharing the link and/or flyer (attached) within your networks. Our goal is to generate additional support so we can continue providing essential resources that enable our department to do this important work. Every dollar donated goes to our Special Education Students.

 Mrs. Leslie – Administrative Assistant

ATTENTION ALL SENIORS!!!

  • We are almost to the finish line, so here are a few reminders.
  • May 11th, 12th and 13th will be Senior Talks. All seniors will go to the theatre during GOV or ECON class and chat with us about graduation and dates of upcoming events so don’t miss out. The 13th will be at lunch and it is for all seniors who don’t have GOV or ECON at Galena or if you were absent. I will send out invites to the students for the 13th. Please ask your student for the packet once they receive it.
  • Attached you will find the QR code for Graduation Photos from Bell Photography, please scan the code to order pictures.

From the Library:

A reminder that all school property needs to be returned by the end of the school year. This includes all textbooks, library books and laptops. Your student can return all of this to the library and we will take care of it from there.

We appreciate your help in gathering back all school/district property. Never hesitate to contact me at skblack@washoeschools.net if you have any questions.

Mr. Banghart – Athletic Director

  • Congrats to our boys golfers Shane Scott and Luke Novotak for qualifying for state next week!
  • Come out and support our baseball program during playoffs this week, and our track program as they compete in the regional finals this Friday and Saturday.

Mrs. Rapisura – Athletic Secretary

Mrs. Cruz Feeley – College and Career

Galena Clinic

Important immunization information for the next school year:

  • Students who have a Religious Exemption form currently in place and wish to continue to have a religious exemption must submit a new religious exemption form turned into Galena  health office before the start of the 2026-2027 school year.  Please find the link for the religious exemption form online at the State of Nevada school Immunization requirements at: https://www.dpbh.nv.gov/programs/immunizations/school-requirements/
  • When you have completed the form please email it to Clinical Aide, Jolie Hallas, at  jolie.hallas@washoeschools.net
  • ATTENTION INCOMING 12TH GRADE STUDENTS: There is an immunization requirement for 12th grade entry. All incoming 12th grade students are required by Nevada State Law to have at least one dose of MCV4 (MenACWY vaccine for Meningitis) on or after 16 years of age.  In the Health office at Galena, we have gone through all the vaccine records of the incoming 12th graders and will and notify you if your child is lacking the MCV4 vaccine for 12th grade entry. This vaccine must be done prior to entering school as a 12th grader for the 2026-2027 school year.  For more information, please see the State of Nevada vaccine page at: https://www.dpbh.nv.gov/programs/immunizations/school-requirements/
