Focus: Ecology, orienteering, and watershed health. Students practice GPS and map navigation, identify native plants, and study the importance of the Lake Tahoe Basin watershed. |

Sky Tavern Project Discovery |
Focus: Outdoor leadership, teamwork, and challenge-based learning. Students participate in high ropes courses, zip lines, and group problem-solving activities designed to build trust, communication, and leadership skills. |

Grimes Point Archaeological Area |
Focus: Archaeology and cultural history. Students examine ancient petroglyphs, learn about the early inhabitants of the Great Basin, and discuss preservation ethics. |

Galena Creek Visitor Center & Upper Trails |
Focus: Sierra Nevada ecology and geology. Students explore riparian and mountain habitats, study local geology, and learn about fire ecology in the Sierra Front. |

Donner Party Historical Discussion & Crystal Peak Park Exploration |
Focus: Nevada’s role in migration history and river ecology. Students examine historical migration routes, study the Truckee River ecosystem, and learn about the effects of human settlement. |

Mount Rose Meadows Winter Skills Day |
Focus: Avalanche safety, snow science, and teamwork. Students conduct avalanche beacon practice, dig snow pits for analysis, and learn safe winter travel techniques. |

Skiing & Snowboarding at Sky Tavern |
Focus: Winter sports skills, physical fitness, and mountain safety. Students participate in skiing and snowboarding lessons tailored to skill levels, practice safe mountain navigation, and learn about alpine environmental stewardship. |

Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Museum & Shoreline Study |
Focus: Indigenous culture and desert lake ecology. Students meet with tribal educators to learn about Paiute history, explore tufa formations, and study the unique desert lake ecosystem. |

May 2026 |
Derby Dam & Reno Mountain Biking |
Focus: Water resource management, engineering, and outdoor recreation. Students tour Derby Dam to learn about its role in Nevada’s irrigation systems, hydroengineering, and environmental impacts. The day concludes with guided mountain biking in the Reno area, focusing on trail safety, riding techniques, and physical wellness. |

- Thursday, Oct. 17: Project Discovery at Sky Tavern: Students built leadership skills by participating in challenging physical activities in the forest at Sky Tavern and collaborating to bring their learning back to daily life.
- Thursday, Nov. 21: Spooner Summit with https://forestry.nv.gov/: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Thursday, January 23: Grimes Point archeology, Sand Mountain adventure
- February 20: Sky Tavern Skiing, Snowboarding, Avalanche Science, and Beacon Location
- April: Hunter Safety Certification (Book work plus outdoor course)
